“Not as the Scribes”

How do you like a seminar that is inspiring, thought-provoking, comes with a full set of notes which is the copy of the speaker’s manuscript of his soon-to-be-published book, and a dinner with the speaker himself after the engaging seminar? What more the cost is only a token amount of S$20 per person inclusive of dinner at Han’s. If you have missed this, you have missed much.

The group of sixty attendees at the recent “Not as the Scribes — Jesus the Teacher and His Teaching” seminar by Ed was truly blessed, not only by Ed’s teaching but also by his many personal sharing of his life experiences as a teacher and true disciple of Jesus whom he loves. Not afraid of even exposing his own weaknesses in his sharing, Ed comes across as a sincere and transparent minister whom we can all emulate and learn from.

Edward Keith Pousson has been lecturing on Bible and missions in theological colleges in Singapore since 1991.
His ministry has developed in Asia, where he has lived and served for nearly 20 years. He has worked with various committees and networks mobilising missions to unreached peoples. Before living in Singapore, he served in short term missions to Haiti, Africa, and Malaysia. He has written a book on missions (Spreading the Flame, Zondervan 1992), and several articles and prayer guides. He earned his Doctorate in Missions from Fuller Theological Seminary, where he also served as a teaching assistant in three disciplines. Ed and his wife Lai Kheng have two sons aged 24 and 21, and a daughter aged 15.

Ed said that Jesus has taught over meals in many instances as recorded in the Gospels. Likewise students enjoyed the fellowship and interaction with Ed over dinner after the seminar and continued to soak in the impartation.

The seminar sought to explore the substance of Jesus’ teaching, using the Sermon on the Mount as a paradigm for understanding the teaching as a whole. It was a quest to rediscover the historical teacher Jesus and his teaching - what he was like as a teacher, how he was like and unlike the scribes.

It was heart-warming to see many alumni signing up and coming for the seminar, some of whom having graduated 10 years ago. It is important to be continually challenged by the Word.

See you at the next Seminar organised by the College! You will be blessed!
