Application to the PhD programme for the coming intake (Jan 2008) is now
closed. We have received numerous applications and the Post-graduate
Programme Committee (PGPC) will meet on 29 Nov 2007 to go through these
applications, after which students’ supervisors will be finalised. If
you are one of the applicants, you should hear from us by end of Dec
2007 on the outcome of your application and the supervision details.
Members of the current PGPC include Ps Wilson, Ps Dennis, Dr May, Dr
Joy, Dr Liew, Dr Phua and Dr Li.
Admission to the programme is based on undergraduate and graduate
transcripts, TOEFL score if applicable, recommendations from former
professors or employers who can speak to your ability to do
doctoral-level work at a University. A major factor is the initial
proposal and the statement of purpose that the applicant provides in the
application. We are looking for evidence that the applicant understands
the specific nature of the programme, can articulate scholarly
intentions, and is academically prepared to undertake the demands of the
programme with a high likelihood of success. The initial proposal and
statement of purpose are perhaps the most important parts of the
application.
All applications are reviewed by the PGPC which makes the final
decision.
If you are planning to enroll into the programme for the next intake
(July 2008), please take note that the application deadline is 30 April
2008. You should start thinking about your thesis topic now and working
on your 2-page initial proposal.
For the application checklist, please see
here.
