Chancellor's Foreword

January 2010

Looking ahead, many question if there are answers, if there any people out there who can lead with integrity, character, and wisdom. This increasing dilemma underscores the importance of TCA College with all her different training opportunities.

The world cries for balanced leaders who can measure up to the standard required to serve on a world stage. TCA College has her focus clear and her mandate implanted deeply in the heart. World class leaders must be trained, developed, and mentored so they can step onto the world stage at such a time as this.

One of the key components in the development of leaders takes the learner one step beyond the classroom exposure. That step must include mentoring. Business leaders today are well aware that the key to success lies in the retaining and grooming of talents within their organisations. This is why management and leadership experts are increasingly emphasising the importance of mentoring. Despite rapid changes in corporate culture, more companies are incorporating mentoring as an important component of management development. A study by Professor Terri, A Scandura, from the University of Miami says that over 70% of Fortune 500 companies have already implemented mentoring programmes.

Leaders and managers often identify effective mentoring and coaching relationships as critical to talent management and retention. For this reason, part of the overall development of students in TCA College is their involvement in small groups where mentoring and development can be experienced on a personal level.

This integrated approach to development is an important component of each of the various disciplines within the college. Issues of character, honesty, integrity, loyalty, vision and finances are all part of the mentoring process. Thus, no matter what your calling and training may be, you will be a cutting edge man or woman who is able to function a cut above the others.

Regardless of what you pursue in life, it is critical that you are prepared at the highest level possible for the turbulent times we currently face. We must move from developing teams and leaders who will work in cooperation and rise to a new level of collaboration. This means working together effectively with each team member bringing their gifts, talents, training and anointing together, adding value and synergy to the team. This will challenge all of us to consider upgrading ourselves for the changing world environment in which we function.

I encourage everyone to move up to a new level. Make this year, your year. Now is the time and TCA College is the place!

In Partnership With Him,
Rev Dr Naomi Dowdy
Chancellor
