Batam Mission Trip

Batam Mission Trip
14 – 15 August 2008

王雪雁 (Wang XueYan), the vice president of the Students’ Council, led a team of eight to Batam for a mission trip from 14-15 August 2008. It was a collaboration between TCA College and a local church. Amongst the team were 7 students and a faculty member, Dr Shelly Li.

The team were organised into two groups and visited 7 families during the two days.

They shared the gospel, did some handicraft with the children and sang songs with pre-believers.

Zheng Fang was one of those who prepared messages and it turned out that they had to witness to many Teochew dialect people. And it so happened that Zheng Fang was a true-blue Teochew lady from China, Swatow. So she shared in Teochew dialect in many occassions.

At one of the homes, she talked to the mother of two adult-children. The children have become Christians - the daughter has baptised and God did a transformation in her life; the son has accepted Christ too but he did not want to get baptised yet because he was a drug addict and felt that he was not good enough for God, he was afraid that he might "disappoint" God if he went back to his old ways. So the group ministered to him.

Zheng Fang witnessed to the mother (Mdm M. C. – real name withheld). She was actually very angry that her children have abandoned their god and she said that children should listen to their parents and not ask the parents to follow in their belief.

Zheng Fang took the God-given opportunity to share with the lady. She said that her mother was even angrier than this Mdm M. C. before, had beaten her up and chased her out of the house because Zheng Fang has believed in Jesus. Zheng Fang shared how God touched her parents later on and they eventually understood the goodness of God and turned to Jesus. The lady began to tear and in the end Zheng Fang led her in the sinner's prayer, praise the Lord! When the team told the pastor about this lady accepting Christ, he almost jumped from his seat, he said it was such a hard case and it was a very good news.

The van that they travelled in also met with a minor accident on the second day. God was very merciful. In that afternoon, another car was arranged so 3 members of the team who usually sat at the back of the van near the back door were in the other car when the accident took place. So there were 3 less people at the back of the van. No one was hurt and the matter was resolved quickly, compensation was made to the pastor by the driver who was at fault.

It was altogether a very good trip in which the team witnessed God’s goodness and guidance.

王雪雁 will follow up with an article on the trip for the upcoming Pacesetters (our yearbook) entitled "Divine Pursuit". Do get a copy when it is distributed on and after Graduation 2008 (Nov).
