TCA College President’s Personal Message January to April 2010

Dear Students, Alumni, Pastors and, Church Leaders,

Exciting Developments

As I begin writing this personal message, I am reminded that many events had taken place in Singapore in the past four months. We saw the grand opening of Universal Studios, the very first in Southeast Asia. The latest economic news reported a very strong V-sharp recovery in our economy with a 13.1% growth for the 1st quarter of 2010. The next exciting announcement that may take place is Singapore’s General Election. New faces in both the incumbent government and opposition parties will be fielded and this renewal of leadership is pivotal to the continuous transformation in Singapore. Various significant developments have also taken place in TCA College in the first quarter of the year. The first significant development was the addition of 2 new faculty members to the School of Divinity, English Department. The second was the Conference 2010 organised by the School of Counselling (SOC) in March. The third was the upgraded facilities in our hostel.

New Faculty in School of Divinity, English Department

The School of Divinity welcomed two distinguished overseas faculty members: Rev Dr Babul Immanuel and Dr Richard Goetz. Dr Immannuel served as the Academic Dean for South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS). He earned his PhD in New Testament from the University of London (UK) and is a well known New Testament scholar in the theological arena in Asia. Dr Goetz earned his PhD in Systematic Theology from Marquette University (USA) and will serve as our Systematic Theologian. He has many years of pastoral experience as well as teaching in various universities in North America. With their experiences in both the church and academia, I am confident that both of them will be a blessing to the College community. Please give them a warm welcome when you see them in your classes.

With the addition of these two faculty members, we have added a total of five new faculty members to the team in the last six months. Our desire is to give the best education to our students from a highly qualified and experienced pool of Christian lecturers.

School of Counselling Conference 2010

Our School of Counselling (SOC) held the Counselling Conference 2010 from the 24th to 26th March with Rev Dr Tan Siang Yang as the main plenary speaker and the SOC faculty members anchoring the various workshops. The theme of the conference was “Managing Hazards, Promoting Health” where the focus was to allow Christian leaders to understand the importance of having a good psycho-spiritual well-being as they serve the Lord in the ministry. Although we had a very short runway to organise this conference, we managed to have a good sign-up and turnout for both the Day Conference and Night sessions. With the encouraging and positive feedbacks from the participants, the SOC team is planning to have more of such conferences in the near future.

Upgraded Hostel Facilities

The College constantly seeks for feedback from the Student Council to improve our ministry among the students. Since we started providing accommodation for our students in our hostel, we received many feedbacks from the Council members and hostelites on how to improve the different services and facilities. One of them that took several months to implement was the installation of air-conditioners in the couples’ rooms. This will definitely help our foreign students to acclimatise to the heat and humidity in Singapore as they settle into our local climate and College environment. There will be more facilities that will be added in the coming months to further enhance the living conditions of the students.

Final Words

As we begin the second trimester for the year, we are thankful for the many new students who are sent by churches to study with us in our four schools. We are grateful that TCA College remains a top choice for many Christian leaders to receive their training and education. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you need information regarding any of our programmes.

Blessings,
Rev Wilson Teo
President
