MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES

OVERVIEW

The Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies (MAIS) provides interdisciplinary exposure to biblical studies, Christian theology, and missions. It aims to develop critical awareness of current world mission trends and their implications for the local church. Graduates are equipped with field-based skills and conceptual knowledge for effective cross-cultural communication and ministry in the mission field.

(For theological bachelor's degree holders)

Full-time: One year

Part-time: Up to three years

 

60 credits

(For non-theological bachelor's degree holders)

Full-time: Two years

Part-time: Up to six years

Admission Requirements

The applicant should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Obtained a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5

  • Possess personal and spiritual maturity

  • Be water baptized and involved in Christian ministry

  • Recommended by his or her local church pastor

 

International applicants must provide evidence of English language proficiency if their previous school's medium of instruction was not in English. This can be demonstrated through a TOEFL score of 80 (IBT) or 550 (PBT), an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher, or an equivalent qualification. Certificates must have been issued within the past 2 years).

Program Aims

Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Scripture and Christian doctrine

  • Understand the nature, ministry, and purpose of the church

  • Possess expertise in interpreting and applying Scripture to practical life situations

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to personal and communal spiritual growth

  • Discern various trends in world missions and their implications for the local church and church growth

  • Engage in theological reflection on contemporary issues in world missions and make independent judgments

  • Demonstrate compassion for the lost and a commitment to global evangelism

  • Develop spiritual maturity in themselves and others

  • Display skill in communicating biblical truth with clarity and conviction

  • Possess the ability to live, work, and minister cross-culturally

Theological bachelor's degree holders are expected to have completed courses marked with an asterisk (*) as part of their bachelor's degrees. However, if these courses were not completed, they may be required to be taken as deficiencies during the program of study.

APPLICATION

The School of Theology follows a trimester system with 3 terms in a year. Each term consists of 13 weeks. Students should check with the school for the exact dates for the school terms.

  • Term 1: Jan - Mar

  • Term 2: May - Jul

  • Term 3: Sep - Nov

 

Applicant may choose to commence the program in any term.
